New Zealand did not wait until the Super Over to choke this time as their lower-middle order imploded after the fifties from Ross Taylor and Tim Seifert in the 5th and final T20I in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.

From 116 for 3 in the 13th over, New Zealand finished with 156 for 9 in 20 overs as they fell short of the 164-run target by 7 runs at the Bay Oval.

India have now become the 1st-ever team in men's T20I cricket to clean sweep a 5-match series. From arriving in New Zealand with a 3-8 head-to-head record to bossing the shortest format of the game, Virat Kohli's men have made a terrific start to the T20 World Cup year.

Virat Kohli was rested and stand-in captain Rohit Sharma retired hurt after making a quickfire 60. However, KL Rahul, who took over from Rohit in the 2nd innings, marshaled the troops wonderfully well to add to New Zealand's woes.

New Zealand now have lost 8 T20Is on the trot with India dominating the shortest format of the game in the ongoing tour.

Earlier in the day, India rode on Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul's 88-run stand to lay a solid platform for an above-par score on what seemed to be a two-paced pitch at the Bay Oval.

India lost an early wicket as Sanju Samson, who was sent to open the innings with Rahul, failed to make use of another opportunity that came his way. Notably, Rohit had dropped himself to No. 3 to accommodate the young opening batsman.

KL Rahul continued his fine run in T20Is with another 40-plus score but the wicketkeeper-batsman was livid after throwing his wicket away in the 12th over. Rahul was dismissed by Hamish Bennett on 45 (33 balls).

There was more trouble for India as stand-in captain Rohit Sharma picked up a calf injury when he was batting after getting to his fifty.

In the 17th overs bowled by Ish Sodhi, Rohit was in serious discomfort as he injured his calf while talking a quick single. Rohit needed physio's attention mid over but carried on to bat with heavy strapping on his calf.

Knowing he was not able to run much, Rohit smashed Ish Sodhi's next delivery into the night sky in Mount Maunganui but had to walk off as the pain from the calf injury seemingly aggravated.

India lost all the momentum they had after Rohit's exit as Shreyas Iyer was struggling to time the ball. Shivam Dube failed once again with the bat, perishing for just 5.

However, Manish Pandey, who had scored an unbeaten fifty in the 4th T20I, proved his worth as a finisher hitting 11 runs from just 4 balls and lifting the total past 160.
